Käpt'n Lütt, by Horst Alisch 1980

Horst Alisch spent most of his life in the DDR (German Democratic Republic), the communist part of Germany. He was born in Berlin in 1925, and started out as an animator. He served in World War II, was taken prisoner of war in England, and returned to Germany in 1946, where he worked as a trucker and earned something extra with his drawings. He moved to East Berlin (not yet a political statement at that time) and found a job as political illustrator at newspaper Berliner Zeitung am Abend, and later at magazine Junge Welt, where he could draw for children. He created comics such as 'Bürokrates, Sohn des Pedantes', 'Ali und Archibald', 'EMMY' and 'Käpt'n Lütt', which appeared in magazine Frösi.
