A Batacaza Limpio by Rafael Araiza
El Batacazo Limpio (Paquin, 1935)

Born in San Luis Potosí, he began his career as an artist in Macaco in 1934. He was one of the most productive local artists working for magazine Paquín between 1934 and 1937. An avid fan of boxing, his best known creation 'A Batacazo Limpio', starring Australian boxer Canguro Carey and his manager, Kid Bananas. For Paquín, Araiza produced serials like 'El Doctor Boris', 'La Marca del Pulpo', 'Los Crimenes del Museo de Cera' and 'El Misterio del Hotel Royal'. He revived his beloved series 'A Batacazo Limpio' on several occasions for other magazines in the following years.

Together with other artists and publisher Nacho Herrerías, he founded magazine Chamaco in 1937. After the assassination of Herrerías in the mid 1940s, he worked for magazines like Figuras. He began another serial about boxing, called 'Currito del Arrabal', as well as several cartoons and caricatures related to this sport. His final comic, 'Papito Frito', appeared in the mid 1960s. Araiza then left the field of comics to become a sports journalist and boxing reporter for television, cinema and local magazines. He retired in 1991 and died in the town of San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato in 2002, at the age of 86.
