Agustí Asensio Saurí was a Catalan artist, who has mainly worked on children's comics in the 1970s and 1980s. He signed his comics with either "Agusti Ascensio" or "Asen". He began his professional career at the age of 15 as an inbetweener on the animated film 'El Mago de los Sueños' (1966). From the mid-1960s on, he was also present in Mata Ratos, a humor magazine of the publishing house Ibero Mundial de Ediciones. He was one of the artists of humorous comics that renewed the publishing house Bruguera in the 1970s. He made features like 'Nicasso, Pintor Moderno', about a modern painter, and 'Tarzán 1990' for DDT and Din Dan. He also worked for children's titles like Cuentame un Cuento and Lluvia de Estrellas, which featured fairy tale adaptations. In 1971, he made a series of eight comic books called 'La Traviesa Filo y Su Genio Cirilo' for Ediciones Punto, and his art was also present in the children's magazine L'Infantil Tretzevents.

From 1980 onwards, he made several children's books with his wife Mercé Company Gonzalez, most notably the series 'Los Birimboyas' ('Els Birimboies' in Catalan) for Editorial Ariel in 1984 and 'Los Cuentos de Nana Bunilda'. The latter was also adapted into a series of 26 episodes for TVE in 1991. His career ended abruptly, when he was killed in a car accident in 1994. In 1997, the Agustí Asensio Foundation was launched, which grants an annual award that bears his name.
