Hans-Georg Barber, who uses the pseudonym Atak, studied visual communication at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1989, he co-founded the avant-garde comics group and magazine Renate, and in 1992, his first graphic novel, 'Atak - The Flowers of Romance', was published. His style is very eclectic. In 1997, he started publishing his own series, 'Ataks Wondertüte', which promoted artistic experiments. With his comic strips 'Atak vs. Ahne' he has set new standards for newspaper strips. He is also a comic and illustration expert and journalist. He now lives in Berlin and is a professor in the Berlin University of Arts.
Atak was an influence on Brecht Vandenbroucke.
