Jack O'Lantern, by Robert Ayton
'Jack O'Lantern'.

Robert Ayton was one of the main artists of the Eagle magazine. For the magazine, he drew the 'Jack O'Lantern' series, set in England in Napoleonic times. The story revolves around the orphan Jack Yorke, who meets his father, who he presumed dead. Ayton and the writer George Beardmore give a vivid image of nineteenth century London, with all its family intrigues, public hangings and rich aristocracy. The series was eventually taken over by Cecil Langley Doughty, but the quality fell off and 'Jack O'Lantern' was canceled in the early 1960s. Robert Ayton also drew the Eagle's back page biography of Sir Walter Raleigh.

He died in 1985 at age 70.
