'Tiger Tim' during its run in Tiny Tots (July 1958), possibly drawn by Julius Stafford Baker Jr.

Julius Stafford Baker was a British comic artist, painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He was the son of Julius Stafford Baker, the creator of 'Tiger Tim'. He continued his father's signature series in the second half of the 1950s.

Early life and career
He was born in 1904 in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. He worked in a similar style as his father, and for many of the same magazines in the 1920s and 1930s. Therefore it is difficult to determine his exact contributions, but some of his work was signed with "B.S.B.". Work of Baker Junior appeared at least in Tiny Tots and Sunbeam, for which he drew 'Dr Rhino's Jolly Jungle Boys'.

World War II
His career was interrupted after the death of his wife in 1936. During World War II Baker served in the Royal Air Force as a squadron leader, intelligence officer and unofficial war artist. He made several paintings of battlefields, which were later purchased by the R.A.F. and nowadays exhibited in the Imperial War Museum, British Museum and V&A.

Tiger Tim
When the third 'Tiger Tim' artist Bert Wymer retired in the 1950s, Julius Stafford Baker III took over this funny animal children's strip. It was originally created by his father back in 1904 and then continued by Herbert Foxwell from 1914 until 1933. It is not quite clear when exactly Baker Junior drew the strip, but his tenure was probably during Tiger Tim's run in Tiny Tots (1956-1959), a companion magazine to Playhour and Jack & Jill. By 1959 the Amalgamated Press was bought over by the Mirror Group, who replaced most of the original AP staff with new artists. Among the later artists of 'Tiger Tim' was Peter Woolcock.

His son, yet another Julius Stafford Baker (IV), was founder of the Happy Dragons' Press in 1969.
