Carlos Baptista Mendes is one of the most prominent Portuguese authors of historical-biographical comics. The primary theme of his biographies were the "big discoveries". He sometimes abandoned this theme to make a bio of Portuguese saints like Pedro Hispano and Saint Antoine. He has also made a comic about the colonial wars, 'O Ericeira'.
