Michael Barnaart is a Dutch fashion designer based in The Hague. His involvement in the comics industry includes merchandise related to the family comic 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen' from Libelle magazine, and a couple of comics pages in the style of the series' creator Jan Kruis for the series' 61st album in 2018.

Early life and fashion career
He was born in 1983 in Alkmaar as Michael Barnaart van Bergen into a family of Dutch nobility. A graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, he has designed a collection for shoes company Sascha, and he is a notable designer in the The Hague fashion industry. The city's council appointed the man fashion ambassador in 2010, after which he designed The Hague's official dress, the "Robe de la Résidente". He opened his own shop in the Hofkwartier district in 2011. Notable activities have been his participation in several anti-fur actions and his design of a Mondriaan dress, which has been exhibited in the Utrecht retail and office complex Hoog Catharijne and at the 'The Vulgar: Fashion Redefined' exposition in the Barbican Centre in London, UK.

Jan, Jans en de Kinderen
Michael Barnaart van Bergen has a longtime association with the comics franchise 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen' of women's magazine Libelle, starting with fashion illustrations with mother Jans for specials. He has designed several pieces of fashion merchandise with the series' animal characters, most notably the dachshund Lotje, with whom he made a popular scarf design. Following his long association with the property, Barnaart wrote and illustrated eight comics pages for the 61st 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen' album in 2018 as a tribute to the comic's creator Jan Kruis, who had passed away in January 2017. For these pages, he assumed the same "shaky" drawing style as the series' originator, which differs from the style applied by the current Studio Jan Kruis members Rob Phielix, Maarten Gerritsen and Daniel van den Broek. He made new Kruis-style pages for the 62nd album in 2019.
