Eli Bauer was born in The Bronx, New York. He attended the Manhattan School of Industrial Arts. He was a writer and storyboard designer working for Ray Patin Productions and Terrytoons. He is the creator of the Terrytoons character 'Hector Heathcote'. As a freelance artist, he developed comic strips like 'Kermit the Hermit' and 'Norman' (1971).
He formed Ariel Productions with Al Kouzel, through which he created animated spots for Jim Henson's 'Sesame Street', as well commercials and the 'Winky Dink and You' TV series. He later wrote and drew gags for magazines like Hugh Hefner's Playboy, Penthouse, Punch, Collier's and Omni. He also did puppet design for Aniforms, a NYC studio founded by puppeteer Morey Bunin.
