Teun Berserik is a self-taught comic artist and illustrator. The son of art painter Hermanus Berserik, he initially worked with cars, specializing in antique models. Eventually turning to art, he has done extensive illustration work for schoolbooks by Wolters-Noordhoff, Thieme, Meulenhoff and Malmberg. Berserik made comics for magazines like Taptoe ('Geheimagent Pang'), Kuifje, Sjors & Sjimmie ('Cat Banda') and Autokampioen ('Joep Skoep & de Matchoo Methode', 'Buurman & Buurman'). He additionally illustrated educational comics for Autotechniek, De Bouw, TPG Post and DAF Trucks.
'Geheimagent Pang'.
In 2012 he created a comic book about Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh in cooperation with the municipality of The Hague. The story dealt with Van Gogh's early efforts to establish himself as an artist, and was published by Oog & Blik. He subsequently started working on his next graphic novel, 'Oranje Orkest', about the Dutch resistance in the final months of World War II.
Since 2018 Berserik and Peter Van Dongen collaborate on the classic series 'Blake & Mortimer', originally created by the late Edgar P. Jacobs. With Yves Sente as scriptwriter, Berserik and Van Dongen illustrated the dyptich 'La Vallée des Immortels' ('The Valley Of The Immortels', 2018-2019). Their next album, 'Le Dernier Espadon' ('The Last Swordfish', 2021), is scripted by Jean Van Hamme and a direct sequel to Jacobs' original dyptich 'Le Secret de l'Espadon' ('The Secret of the Swordfish', 1946-1949).
In 2020 he joined 75 Dutch & Flemish comic artists to make a graphic contribution to the free collective comic book ‘Striphelden versus Corona’ (Oogachtend, Uitgeverij L, 2020). The book is intended to support comics stores who had to close their doors for two months during the lockdown at the height of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
