Charles Henri Joseph Boost was born in Breda, The Netherlands in 1907. He graduated in drawing around 1930 and became illustrator, comic artist and film reporter. Until 1933, he was a teacher at several primary schools in the south of the Netherlands. After that, he got a job as a children's books illustrator for publisher Helmond.
'De Avonturen van Broeder Bastiaan'.
Boost moved to Amsterdam in 1936, where he wrote critical film reviews for magazines such as De Groene Amsterdammer and drew political cartoons and strips for De Tijd. Comics he created were 'Broeder Bastiaan' (written by Paul Rutten, 1942), 'Knor de Pot' (1943), 'Neppie Tuun' (1945), 'Jan de Zeehond' (written by Jan Derks) and 'Robinson Crusoë' (text by Pauline Boost, 1941). He was the brother of Dutch cartoonist Wim Boost.
