Squabe by Abe Borst
Squabe

Abe Borst is a Dutch comic artist and illustrator. He was one of the first alumni of the Comic Design study at ArtEZ in Zwolle in 2012, together with Amanda Majoor. As a freelance artist, he works through Studio Funny Farm in Arnhem, alongside Hendrik J. Vos, Kees de Boer, Roel Venderbosch, Jordi Peters and other artists. He publishes the autobiographical comic 'Squabe' in the LGBT magazine Expreszo, and makes the gag strip 'Zoo & Zo' with Ype Driessen for KidsWeek. His comics diary often deals with his search for a relationship, and has appeared in self-published mini comics and in Boekenkrant.

A first official 'Squabe' book collection appeared at Syndikaat in late 2014. Abe also makes a comic about food and cooking with Esther van de Bund, called 'Smikkelen en Smullen'. His work has furthermore appeared in Zij aan Zij, [UIT] in Arnhem, and the free Arnhem newspaper NAK. Borst has given comics and illustration workshops, both for children and adults. He also works as a live cartoonist.

In 2020 he joined 75 Dutch & Flemish comic artists to make a graphic contribution to the free collective comic book ‘Striphelden versus Corona’ (Oogachtend, Uitgeverij L, 2020). The book is intended to support comics stores who had to close their doors for two months during the lockdown at the height of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
