Insomnia by Matt Broersma

Matthew Broersma grew up in a religious commune in South Texas, and was educated at Vassar College and the University of East Anglia in Norwich. While in Texas, he sold his own photocopied mini-comics, including those starring a character called 'Throkk the Barbarian'. He traveled around the world and pursued various careers, including a period as a bartender and lounge singer in Japan, as an English teacher in South Korea and as an Internet reporter in San Francisco. Broersma eventually turned to England to study illustration at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.

Broersma lives and works in London, and has published several graphic novels with French publishing houses, such as 'Hawaii' (2002) and 'Le Grand Tour' (2003) with Éditions FLBLB, and 'Détour' (2005) and 'Insomnia' (2005) with Coconino Press. He also contributes stories to the Canadian Drawn & Quarterly review, and his 'Insomnia' series is published by Fantagraphics. With French writer Paul Martin, he makes the children's detective series 'Les Enquêtes du Docteur Énigmus' for the Bayard Presse magazines J'Aime Lire and DLire.
