Cassandra Calin is a Romanian-Canadian illustrator, cartoonist and author, reaching over 2.5 million people with her semi-autobiographical webcomic series 'Cassandra Comics'.
Early life and career
Born in Romania in 1994, Cassandra Calin moved to Montréal, Canada when she was ten years old. There, she graduated in 2019 with a BA in Graphic Design from the UQAM University of Québec. Active as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist, her list of clients includes the Uniqlo clothing stores, Les Éditions les Malins, Mattel and CollegeHumor.

Cassandra Comics
A self-taught cartoonist who has been drawing since her early childhood, Calin first showcased her talents on Tumblr after a friend recommended it. In a matter of months, she accumulated 40,000 followers with her 'Cassandra Comics'. Since 2018, she has been active on Instagram, where by February 2024 she reached 2.7 million followers. Her work has been available on the Tapas webtoon portal, while she has been selling her art prints through her online Society6 store.
Using a manga-inspired style that can easily switch from sweet and elegant beauty to grotesque self-mockery, Calin creates relatable webcomics about her daily problems, often emphasizing on the gap between high expectations versus reality. Recurring topics are the trials of single life, school, stress, junk food, shaving, the volatility of curly hair and maintaining a healthy self-image. Her lighthearted slice-of-life comic strips have also been collected in the books 'Still Just Kidding' (3DTotal Publishing, 2018) and 'I Left The House Today!' (Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2020). In June 2024, Scholastic/Graphix released her debut graphic novel 'The New Girl', a fictional story about change inspired by Calin's own immigration background.
