Maigret, by Marc Cardus

The Catalan Marc Cardus began his comics career in 1945. From the early 1950s, he worked for Sagédition. However, he is primarily known from his work for Opera Mundi. From 1956 to 1962 he illustrated at least 15 series of about 300 strips each for this agency. His comics were published in French dailies such as Le Parisien, Paris-Journal and Paris-Jour. Cardus illustrated mostly comic adaptations of such writers as George Sand, Alexandre Dumas and the Bronte sisters. His oeuvre also included two police series: 'Inspecteur Lecoq' (based on the novels by Emile Gaboriau) and 'Inspecteur Dulong'. Almost all Cardus's comics had a wide diffusion in the local daily press. After 1962, he probably returned to Spain.
