Philippe Caupenne is an illustrator from Bordeaux, who lives and works in Gujan-Mestras in the South West of France. He worked in administration during daytime, and was active as an author on the side. He has worked extensively as a comic artist and illustrator for army magazines like TAM and Armées d'Aujourd'hui since the 1970s. Between 1979 and 1986, he worked as a caricaturist for the FR3 Aquitaine television news.

His best-known comic is 'Les Aventures de Tristan Queceluila', which has appeared at several small publishing labels since 1976 until finding a more steady home with Daric in 2006. This historical comic series depicts the English occupation of the French region Aquitaine in the 14th century, during the Hundred Years' War. Éditions du Village additionally pubished two books of his historical comic 'Les Templier des Sables' in 1982 and 1985. Caupenne has additionally made a series about the Arcachon Bay, called 'Du Rififi sur le Bassin' (1999-2004). It was followed by 'Du Rififi aux Capucins' in 2014 (Éditions Daric). His comics for Éditions Daric have been colored by Fabien Rypert.
