Jean-Jacques Chaubin was born in Saintes, a small town in the Charente-Maritime department. He headed for Paris in 1979, where he studied jewelry design and gemology (the science of cutting crystals) at the École du Louvre. He started producing futuristic jewelry and worked as a stylist with Van Cleff & Arpels. He changed focus in the late 1980s, when he turned to comic book art, video game design and sci-fi illustration. He participated in the 1993 'Dune' video game, and teamed up with writer Alejandro Jodorowsky to create 'La vérité est au fond des rêves'. The book was released by Les Humanoïdes Associés as a deluxe edition of 1,300 copies in 1993. Soleil Productions released his book 'Gnomes et Lutins' in 1995. Chaubin has since focused largely on video games, computer graphics, and book cover illustrations.
