From the age of four, Chu Teh-Yung was interested in drawing. It was during his two-year military duty in the mid-1980s that he created the strip that made him famous: 'Shuang Hsiang Pao'. To evade harassment and censorship while in the army, Chu drew many of the strips under a blanket while holding a flashlight. He would then cut up the four panels and mail them to his father one by one. His father relayed them to the China Times. Chu had no idea how successful the strip had become until he left the military. He was immediately offered a full-time position drawing for the China Times. Some of Chu Teh-Yung's later strips include 'Chu Liu Chu', 'Capitalists' and 'Bitter Olive'.
