Ramón Cilla was one of the pioneers in Spanish comics, along with Mecáchis and Apeles Mestres. Cilla was a prolific artist who worked for most illustrated magazines of the time, among which Mecáchis's La Caricaturista and its supplement, the Madrid Cómico (of which Cilla was the director together with Sinesio Delgado), La Gran Vía, Blanco y Negro and Los Madriles.
