'De Diefstal van de Eve + Adam Kollektie'.
Guus van Cleef was a Dutch comic artist, who worked on advertising comics and a couple of Disney comic stories in the 1980s and 1990s.
Early life
Van Cleef was born in 1950 in Jakarta, the Dutch Indies (nowadays Indonesia). He spent his professional life in Drunen, a town near the city Den Bosch. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, as a musician, he was involved in cultural activities surrounding the youth center Provadya Kaatsheuvel.
Comics
Later on, Van Cleef was active as a comic artist and painter of landscapes and oils. During the 1980s, he often collaborated with the writer Do Veltkamp and the artists Legs Boelen and Joop Swaans (Esjé); with the latter under the collective banner "Swaanscleefaan" (a pun on the fairy tale 'Zwaan Kleef Aan', the Dutch title of Grimm's fairy tale 'The Golden Goose'). In early 1983, an exposition of the team's projects and productions was held under the title 'The Hypnotist' in the Eindhoven gallery De Krabbedans. Around 1980, Van Cleef and scriptwriter Martin Roos made the advertising comic 'De Diefstal van de Eve + Adam Kollektie', celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Eve + Adam Shoes line. Between 1989 and 1998, Van Cleef worked sporadically for the Dutch Donald Duck weekly, drawing gag pages and short stories with Disney characters like Gyro Gearloose, Goofy and Bucky Bug.
