Gil et Joanne by Clovis
'Gil et Joanne'.

Claude Viseur was a comic book artist and illustrator, who specialized in drawings cars and works under the pen name Clovis. He began his career in 1967 at the Belvision animation studios in Brussels, led by Ray Goossens. He was assistant-animator on their feature films 'Astérix et Cléopâtre' ('Astérix and Cleopatra', 1968), based on René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo's comic series 'Astérix' and 'Tintin et le Temple du Soleil' ('Tintin and the Prisoners of the Sun'), based on Hergé's 'Tintin' album of the same name. He was chief animator on the second 'Tintin' feature film, 'Tintin et le Lac aux Requins' ('Tintin and the Lake of Sharks'). In 1971, he also worked on the feature film 'Lucky Luke' (later retitled 'Daisy Town'), also directed by Goscinny, based on Morris' western comic series.

Fascinated by motorsports, Viseur started making illustrations for several related Belgian magazines. Between 1974 and 1981, he was part of Jean Graton's art team, where he was responsible for drawing the race cars in the 'Michel Vaillant' comics.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Viseur was mostly active as a commercial artist in the automotive field. His work from this period includes comic books like 'Une Aventure de Gil et Joanne' (with Denis Asselberghs by commission of Louis de Poortere, 1983), 'Fric-Frac à Francorchamps' (with Paul Ide, 1988) and 'Special Stages' (for the Mazda Rally Team Belgium, 1989). In 1990, he set up CAR-toon, through which he published and sold some of his creations in the form of limited prints, posters and cards. Since 1998, he made paintings of cars on commission. He died in 2018, at age 72.
