Born in Milan, Vittorio Coliva went to work for Roy D'Amy's studios in 1956. Between 1959 and 1962, he made back-ups and illustrations for Tex, such as 'Il Feticcio Tragico' with Gianluigi Bonelli. For Edizioni Alpe, he cooperated with Roberto Renzi on 'Oreste il Re delle Foreste' in Cucciolo, and 'Protone' in Tiramolla. He subsequently illustrated stories with 'Maschera Nera', 'Zorak', 'Satanik' and 'Kriminal' for Editoriale Corno. From 1965 to 1971, he made episodes of 'OS 117', 'Goldrake', 'Messalina', 'Helga' and 'Jolanka'. Coliva additionally cooperated with the publishing house Universo, producing work for Albo dell'Intrepido and Il Monello. In 1976, he was present in Audax. In the 1980s, he illustrated 'Brave Starr' comics.
