'The Perishers'.
Dennis Collins is probably best known for his work on the comic strip 'The Perishers', which started in the Manchester edition of The Daily Mirror in 1958. The strip was the brainchild of Daily Mirror editor Bill Herbert, and originally written by Ben Witham, who was soon afterwards replaced by Maurice Dodd. The Collins-Dodd team was successful and the 'Perishers' moved into the national editions in October 1959.

The Cartoonists Club awarded Collins a plaque for Humorous Strip Cartoonist of 1983 upon his retirement. Collins lived with his wife and daughter in the little town of Upton on the Wirral. After Collins' retirement, 'The Perishers' was continued by Maurice Dodd on his own, until he handed over the art duties to Bill Mevin in 1992.
