Al Covial studied fine arts in Bordeaux in the early 1980s. Afterwards, he made his first comics for fanzines and magazines like PLGPPUR, Censuré and Circus. In 1988, he created 'La Bouteille à l'Encre' at Florentin. After an abandoned project with Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Al Covial worked in the advertising field for a while. In 1998, he took over the 'Alef Thau' series with scripts by Alejandro Jodorowsky after the death of the artist Arno. From 2001, Covial is also a regular contributor to Fluide Glacial.
