Georges Cyr was a painter and illustrator from Normandy. He started his artistic career on the advice of the painter Guillaumin. In the early 20th century, he drew for magazines like L'Illustré à Cinq Centimes. As from 1924, Cyr was exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. He moved to Lebanon in 1934, and became one of the country's pioneers in modern art.
