Toos by Arend van Dam
'Strip Toos'.

Arend van Dam is a Dutch commercial artist and (political) cartoonist. Born in Vlaardingen, he studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam and went on to become an illustrator, comic artist and cartoonist based in Landsmeer. He has sometimes used the pseudonym Zetbé. Van Dam has published in Hervormd Nederland, Centraal Weekblad, de Tijd, Het Financiële Dagblad, NRC Handelsblad, De Volkskrant, Het Agrarisch Dagblad and several corporate and house organ publications, but also The New York Times.

Van Dam created comic characters like 'In-tel-ligentje' for Intel Personeelsblad (from 1972), 'Rabofantje' for Raboband (from 1975) and 'Suup' for Diligentia (from 1976). He has also published comic strips and cartoons for Nieuwe Revu, VU Magazine and Opzij, and made illustrations for books. Apart from being a cartoonist, he was a teacher in Industrial and organizational psychology at the VU until 2006.

In 1985, he made a contribution to the book 'Tegenaanval' (De Lijn, 1985), an anti-military book advocating the liberation of cartoonist Wim Stevenhagen, who was sentenced for refusing to fulfill his military service for reasons of principle.
