Igor David was born in Agen in the South West of France. He spent most of his childhood in Africa, and enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Angoulême to study graphic arts in 1983. He began his career in the fields of advertisement and illustration, making promotional drawings and designs for a chain of stores. He also exhibited his paintings, and made illustrations for children's books. He made his comics debut in 1996 with 'Magic Justice' at Vents d'Ouest. Between 1998 and 2000, he made the '9 Têtes' trilogy with scriptwriter Tiburce Oger at Les Humanoïdes Associés. He wrote and drew the detective story 'De Selma à Montgomery' in the Les Humanoïdes collection Tohu Bohu in 2001. David has since then focused on his activities as a painter and illustrator.
