Manuel de Macedo is the author of one of the first Portugese comics. His comic, 'Historia d'una Dôr de Dentes' was published in the magazine As Notícias in May, 1866. Manuel de Macedo was the son of a royal family, but he decided to start an artistic career. He followed an artistic education and became one of the pioneers of Portuguese caricature.
