Father Pierre Defoux was a Jesuit, who was active in several fields of art. Born in 1924 in Arlon, Belgium, he settled in Brussels, where he worked as a painter, illustrator, sculptor and creator of lattice windows. His worked was always devoted to religion, such as his illustrations for books like 'Ces Inutiles' and 'Regarde qui te fait signe'.

He was the author of one comic strip, called 'Xavier, raconté par le ménestrel'. Drawn in a Clear Line style, it was originally published in Spirou in 1953. The story was later reprinted in La Libre Belgique and in book format by Éditions Hélyode in 1990, and by Édition Coccinelle in 2002. The final edition had 17 extra pages. Defoux passed away in 2013 in Brussels. His death happened to coincide with the 40th Comics Festival in Angoulême, where several of his original comic pages were exhibited in the local cathedral.
