'One Big Happy'. 

Rick Detorie is an American cartoonist, book author and illustrator, based in Venice Beach, California. Detorie was born and raised in Baltimore, where he acquired a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He later settled in California, where he worked as an art director and creative director for an advertising agency. His cartoons additionally appeared in magazines like National Lampoon, TV Guide, Saturday Evening Post, Saturday Review, Penthouse, Omni and Working Woman. He made drawings for storybooks, record album covers and merchandise for the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' franchise during the 1980s.

Detorie has had several humor books and illustrated (youth) novels published through Wallaby, Putnam and Egmont USA. He wrote and illustrated 'The Haunted House Storybook' series for Watermill Press, 'Scary Tales Activity Books' for Checkerboard Press, and 'The Magic Answer Books' and 'There's A Cat in Alcatraz' for Tor. Detorie created his comic strip about the typical family of the modern age, 'One Big Happy', on 11 September 1988. After the launch of this Sunday comic, the daily comic started a day later, on 12 September. The series ran for decades, until the final Sunday episode appeared on 31 December 2022 and the final daily on 31 December 2023. Since then the papers have relied on reruns.
