The evil and the black princess

Károly Dönti is a Hungarian comic book illustrator, born in Ócsa on 27 July 1945. A self-taught artist, he likes to exploit the contrast between light and shade in his comics.

His works are scripted by Ferenc Kiss. Their first comics had been published in Kincses kalendárium in 1996, after which they made a western story adaptation. Later they adapted classic Hungarian literary works together. Dönti's comics date back between 1996 and 2003. These include Kálmán Mikszáth's 'A Plutó' ('Pluto', 1996), Mór Jókai's 'Damokosok' (1998), Antal Gyurits' 'Menekvés Debreczenbe' ('Escape to Debreczen', 2000) and Leslie L. Lawrence's 'A gonosz és a fekete hercegnö' ('The evil and the black princess', 2003).

A Pluto

He also illustrated C.S. Lewis' fantasy book series 'The chronicles of Narnia' during this period. The artist's pen technique renders his images a special plastic quality, his inks are worked out in great detail.
