Colleen Doran began her career in professional publishing when she was still in her early teens. She is an accomplished artist, illustrator, and writer, and has worked for several of the well known comics companies, like The Walt Disney Company, Marvel Entertainment, DC Comics, Image Comics, Lucasfilm, Dark Horse Comics, Sony, Scholastic, and many others. For Warp Graphics, she worked on 'Elfquest' in the mid-1980s, as well as on her own 'A Distant Soil'. At DC, she drew for 'Captain Atom', 'Teen Titans' and Wonder Woman' until the early 1990s. She has also contributed to the famous 'Sandman' series, written by Neil Gaiman, under DC's Vertigo imprint. More recently, she has worked on Vertigo titles like 'Stealth Tribes', written by Warren Ellis, and 'Lucifer'. In the second half of the 1980s, she worked on Marvel titles like 'Fallen Angels', 'Spider-Man' and 'Power Pack'. In the 1990s, she illustrated Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' and did artwork for Harris' 'Vampirella'. In 2005, she returned to Marvel to work on the monthly series 'The Book of Lost Souls' with Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. She has received a number of awards and nominations for her work.
