Juan Escandell was the artist of the 'Antarès' series, about a man-fish with superhuman powers. After a few episodes the comic got its own periodical. Escandell has also illustrated some comic adaptations for Bruguera's Historias Famosas collection ('Robinson Crusoe', 'Ivanhoe', Last of the Mohicans', etc.) and he has drawn for Capitan Trueno Extra in the 1960s. Together with writer Victor Mora, he produced 'Aventura en el Fondo del Mar' in 1965.

Escandell has also drawn for foreign publications. Through Britain, he has drawn the first episodes of the Dutch 'Horre, Harm en Hella' strip for the Toonder Studios in 1968-69 (scripts by Andries Brandt), which he signed S. Candell.

Also present on the German market, he drew 'Masters of the Universe' for the German Marvel, as well as the comics version of the radio play 'Jan Tenner' in Fix und Foxi and the 'Bibi und Tina' comic of the Ehapa Verlag. He is affiliated to the Comicon Studios, where he provides artwork to Disney and Kiddinx-related publications.
