Colleen Frakes is a graduate of the Center for Cartoon Studies, and has been making comics since 2001. In 2007 she received a Xeric Grant for 'Tragic Relief', and in 2009 she was awarded the Ignatz for "Promising New Talent" for her second book, 'Woman King'. Further books by Frakes are 'Island Brat' (2011) and 'Prison Island - A Graphic Memoir' (2015).
She has contributed to numerous comic anthologies and drawn dozens of mini comics, including 'The Basket Ogress'. Among her clients are Mirage Studios ('Tales of the TMNT'), Dark Horse Presents, Seven Stories Press and Retrofit Comics. She lives in Seattle and between 2005 and 2007 worked in a library.
