Gert Fransen studied Graphic Art at the Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp, alongside comic artists like Eric D'hondt and Raf Ravijts. While studying, he drew a comic strip called 'De Wereld Volgens Wolf' for the children's publication Harmattan by the publishing house Wereldwijd. Between 1985 and 1987, he made three albums in the series 'De Avonturen van Pisarro' with writer Adriaan Bizet for the same publisher, using the pen name Gerard François.
By 1987, he dropped his comics activities and started his advertising agency Communication Matters. He lives and works in Grobbendonk, where he is also active in local politics through the social-democratic party sp.a.
Fransen also established a comics-themed group on Facebook, named Stripknip.
