Penko Gelev was born in Assenovgrad, Bulgaria in 1968. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, where he graduated in 1987. He became an editor of several newspapers, as well as a freelance illustrator and comic artist. Some of the comics he drew are 'The Wizard of Oz', 'The Aksol's Song', 'Corporal Neck' (written by Sotir Gelev), 'The Damnation' (written by Stefan Bellov), 'Ozma of Oz' and 'Iliicho and August'. They were published in magazines like Duga, Riko and Venche.
Penko Gelev was also an actor and special effects designer for the movie 'The Witch's Castle'. He publishes the comic series 'Mowgli' and cooperates often with Sotir Gelev.
