Ismahane by Christophe Girard
'Ismahane'.

Christophe Girard was born during the revolutionary month of May 1968. He studied Fine Arts, and hung around in circles of the extreme left for a while. He eventually became a humanitarian, and during his travels, he made drawings of the death camps in Romania, the massacres of the Kurds after the first Gulf War and of the war in Croatia and Bosnia. He later worked as a teacher, before turning to arts and comics in 2005.

His first work was the futuristic political fiction 'Le Dossier Secret', based on a script by Tim Geraghty (2006). It was followed by his picture book 'Contre Histoire De l'Art' in the following year. In his 2008 book 'Pays kaki 92/08', he told his experiences during his military service. These first works were published by Bruno Letort's Éditions !. He then began his association with Les Enfants Rouges, the publisher that has released most of his work.

'Bernarreke'.

This includes, 'Matisse Manga' (2010), a book about the French painter Henri Matisse, his adaptation of the Fritz Lang film 'Métropolis' (2011) and the historical trilogy 'Le Linceul du Vieux Monde' (2013-2014). Girard has worked with scriptwrtiter Sasha on 'Ismahane' (2011-2012), about a girl during the the Lebanese Civil War, and with Bernard Valgaeren on 'Bernarreke' (2015-), the story of a deaf boy growing up in the 1950s in a Catholic Belgian town.
