Men of the Mounted, by Harry Hall
'Men of the Mounted'.

Harry S. Hall was a staff artist for the Toronto Telegram and the illustrator of 'Men of the Mounted', the first Canadian adventure strip written by Ted McCall and published in the paper from February 1933 to February 1935. The comic was also featured in Big Little Books and in a set of trading cards by Willard's Chocolate. The strip was canceled in 1935, when the US strip 'King of the Mounted' was launched. The author, McCall, moved on to do a second strip, 'Robin Hood and Company' (1935-1939), with artist Charles Snelgrove.

Harry S. Hall also drew the daily satirical comic 'News 'n' Nonsense' (14 December 1936 - 29 August 1947) in the Toronto Evening Telegram, which took inspiration from current events. Thematically, it was a successor to Harry "Hy" Moyer's similar topical comic series 'Nothing But The Truth' and kept carrying this title until 30 December 1936. Hall's graphic commentary on daily news events in 'News 'n' Nonsense' always ended with a personal reflection by a little girl named Melinda. Accompanied by her catchphrase, 'Sez Melinda', Melinda put the news event into a light-hearted, or otherwise neutral perspective. In 1941, a book compilation of 'News 'n Nonsense' was released, titled 'Mean Scamp - F' (1941), with specific focus on ridiculing Adolf Hitler. According to the website Canadian Animation, Cartooning and Illustration, 'News 'n' Nonsense' still ran in papers as late as 29 August 1947.
