Klein Napoleon, by Dick Heins (Eppo #1, 2009)
'Klein Napoleon' (Eppo #1, 2009).

Dick Heins is mainly active as an illustrator for game and holiday books. He began his career in the 1980s and 1990s, contributing to small press magazines Striptuur and Incognito. He created several comic characters, such as 'Baldo', 'Babeteam' and 'Mooie Keetje' (in Het Kanton). In the 1990s, he drew Hanco Kolk's gag comic 'Cor Daad' in Taptoe for a period of five years, while Michiel de Jong provided inking. Later Kolk picked up the pencil again for this series.

Together with writer Rikky Schreever, Heins published an album about the bear 'Baldo' at Big Balloon in 2006. Later, he became the assistant of Jeff Broeckx on 'Klein Suske en Wiske'.

40 Hours by Dick Heins
'40-Hours' (Eppo #3, 2012).

For the new Eppo magazine, launched in January 2009, Heins made the gag strip 'Kleine Napoleon' with Frank Jonker, and he did the inking and coloring of the 'Eppo' comic by Uco Egmond and later René Uilenbroek. When 'Kleine Napoleon' ended, Heins created the office gag strip '40-Hours' (2010), with Eric Hercules. The strip ended in early 2018. From 2013 on, he was affiliated with Studio Jan van Haasteren, a studios set up to produce crowded jigsaw puzzles in the tradition of Jan van Haasteren for Jumbo.

In 2020, he joined 75 Dutch & Flemish comic artists to make a graphic contribution to 'Striphelden versus Corona' (Oogachtend/Uitgeverij L, 2020), a free collective comic book intended to support comic stores that had to close their doors during the lockdown at the height of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

In 2021, Heins won the P. Hans Frankfurtherprijs, as part of Jan van Haasteren's Studio Van Haasteren. He received the award along with Van Haasteren and Rob Derks.
