Simon Henwood studied Mixed Art, Painting, Animation and Illustration. Between 1988 and 1992, he lived in New York, where he created eleven books for adults and children, such as 'The Clock Shop', 'The King Who Sneezed' and 'A Piece of Luck'. In 1992, he founded Blue Eyed Dog Ltd., a multimedia arts company. A year later, Henwood launched Purr magazine, which featured Henwood's art, as well as other artists' painting, and photography.

In 1994, Henwood launched Purr Books, a publishing company, and a year later, he involved himself with animation. He founded Alice magazine in 1997. His comic work includes 'Tuffy the Labdog', 'Poor Johnny Pumpkin' and 'The Attack of the Bunny Squid'.
Henwood has also been active in the music industry, directing music videos for Kanye West ('Love Lockdown') and album cover design for Rihanna's 'Rated R' (2009) and Róisín Murphy's 'Ruby Blue' (2005). He and Murphy were a couple for a while.
Simon Henwood died in 2024.
