Hotel Nevelzicht by Mark van Herpen

Mark van Herpen published his first comic in a Dutch 1980s comics annual, after participating in a contest by publisher Arboris. In the early 1990s he published in a strip Striptuur, the magazine published by comics shop Haagse Stripshop, and was also present in Jet Magazine of publisher Lombard. He then assisted Minck Oosterveer on both 'Claudia Brücken' and 'Jack Pott' for a period of two years. Van Herpen then lived in Nepal for five years, to do development work. During this period he created his comic 'Hotel Nevelzicht', published in Suske en Wiske Weekblad from 1994 on. Van Herpen worked as a graphic designer for many years before returning to 'Hotel Nevelzicht' for Eppo magazine from 2009 until early 2015. He also makes a monthly cartoon for De Rotonde, a local paper from the town of Eemnes.

In 2020, he joined 75 Dutch & Flemish comic artists to make a graphic contribution to 'Striphelden versus Corona' (Oogachtend/Uitgeverij L, 2020), a free collective comic book intended to support comic stores that had to close their doors during the lockdown at the height of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
