Joseph Hillenbrand was a comic book artist during Canada's short-lived comic book industry in the 1940s. He was born Joseph Francis Hillenbrand in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1910 into a family originally from New York City. He attended the School of Fine Arts in Montréal. By 1942, he was one of the freelance artists for Educational Projects, the publisher of didactic comic books like 'Canadian Heroes', that presented profiles of Canadian prime ministers and governors general as well as narratives on the history of Canada.
Early in 1944 Hillenbrand started a futuristic feature called 'World of Tomorrow'. Following the publisher's demise in 1945, Hillenbrand continued to do commercial art as well as portrait paintings. He passed away from a heart attack in 1966, at the young age of 56.
