Born in Belton, Texas, Rick Hoberg got a Bachelor in Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles. He began working in comics in the mid-1970s, assisting Russ Manning on the 'Tarzan' and 'Star Wars' newspaper strips. Between 1977 and 1979, he was also present at Marvel with artwork for Iron Man' and 'Invaders'. He assisted Fred Kida on the daily 'Spider-Man' strip in 1981-82. In the 1980s, he mainly drew for such DC titles as 'The Brave and the Bold', 'Checkmate', 'Batman', 'Green Arrow', 'Green Lantern', 'Justice League' and Scott Shaw's 'Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew'. In addition, he worked on 'DNAgents' at Eclipse (1984-86) and 'Roger Rabbit' for Disney (1990-91)
Hoberg has done production art/merchandise work for Lucasfilm's Star Wars films. Besides his comics work, Hoberg has been active in animation since 1978. He has worked at Hanna-Barbera as a storyman and animator, and then as a director for Marvel Productions and as a storyboard artist at DiC Entertainment and Mirage Studios. In 2001, he worked on the special effects on Universal's film 'The Mummy'.
