Laura Howell is a British comic artist based in Birmingham, and the first female artist to draw for DC Thomson's The Beano. After studying English literature at university, Howell went on to work as an editor of children's books, as well as writing non-fiction for them. In 2006 she was awarded 'Best Comic Strip' at the International Manga and Anime Festival, and she has worked as a professional cartoonist since that year.
Howell has worked on a variety of features for The Beano, such as 'Johnny Bean from Happy Bunny Green', 'Les Pretend', the revival of 'Tricky Dicky' and a manga version of The Beano. She additionally works for Egmont UK's Toxic magazine ('Robin Hoodie'), and she has drawn 'Sneaky, The World's Cleverest Elephant' and 'The Mighty M' for the children's comic anthology The DFC, as well as stories for the 'Angry Birds' comic. Her client list further includes Viz, Mad Magazine, Harvard University, Ilex Press and Accent UK, and she also self-publishes comics like 'The Bizarre Adventures of Gilbert & Sullivan'.
