Steffen Jähde was born in Greifswald, and learned the finer points of painting and drawing from the painter Johanne Neef between 1986 and 1989. In 1989, he joined the team of the DDR comic magazine Mosaik, where he succeeded background artist Egon Reitzl. Jähde was active as the 'Abrafaxe' background artist until 2004. He is now active as freelancer and does illustration work, as well as some comic projects.
