Frédéric Jannin made his debut in the music magazine More, where he created the character 'Rockman' with text by Jean-Claude de la Royère. In 1977, he began his famous 'Germain et Nous...' series in the Spirou supplement Le Trombone Illustré. The series was later continued in the normal pages of Spirou. The gags humorously depict the everyday life of a group of teenagers. Note that when Jannin got older, he began focusing more and more on the parents. Jannin initially worked with Thierry Culliford as his scenarist, but he eventually began writing the gags himself or cooperating with Yvan Delporte, Alain De Kuyssche or Serge Honorez. In 1980, he was one of the contributing artists to the book 'Il Était une Fois... Les Belges'/'Er Waren Eens... Belgen' (1980), a collection of columns and comic pages published at the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Belgium. In 1987-1988, the publishing company Brain Factory International released a four-volume comic book series where Franco-Belgian comic authors visualized several songs by singer Jacques Brel in comic strip form. The first volume, 'Le Plat Pays' (1987) featured a contribution by Jannin. He paid tribute to Nikita Mandryka in the collective comic book 'Tronches de Concombre' (Dupuis, 1995).

Also for Spirou, Jannin began 'Arnest Ringard et Augraphie' (text by Yvan Delporte and André Franquin), as well as the gag strip 'Didi' (text by Alain De Kuyssche) and 'Les Collectioneurs' (text by Delporte). He teamed up with De La Royère again in 1984 to create 'Jimmy Laventure' at Dargaud. A year later, he started 'Nougat le Rat' in L'Argonaute with Serge Honorez.

In the early 1990s, Jannin began an intense cooperation with the scenarist Stefan Liberski in both animation and comics. They developed the animation series 'Les Snuls', as well as some animation projects for Canal+. For the juvenile press, they created the comic series 'Les Aventures de Petit Jules et Pépé Jules'. They also drew for the economic section of Le Soir, collected in the album 'Le Comique Économique'. At Lombard, they began 'On se Détend à Fond' in the collection Petits Délires at Lombard. He revived his 'Germain et Nous' comic in Télé-Moustique under the title 'Les Zaduzado'. Besides his comic activities, Frédéric Jannin is a musician in the bands Zinno and Les Bowling Balls.
In 1975, Jannin designed the album cover for 'New Electronic System' (1975) by New Electronic System. Jannin was one of several artists to make a graphic contribution to ‘Pepperland’ (1980), a collective comic book tribute to the store Pepperland, to celebrate its 10th anniversary at the time. He was one of several artists to make a graphic contribution to 'Baston Labaffe no. 5: La Ballade des Baffes’ (Goupil, 1983), an official collective parody comic of André Franquin’s 'Gaston Lagaffe’. He also contributed to another official collective homage 'Rocky Luke' (Goupil, 1983), paying tribute to Morris' 'Lucky Luke'.
Under the pseudonym Fernand, Jannin also released a musical single, 'Régime Sans Sel' (1975), of which he illustrated the cover. Two musical singles based on his characters, 'La Chanterie De Laeken' (by Jimmy Laventure, 1986) and 'Toute Dernière Fois' (by Germain et Nous, 1988), have been released. He also directed the music video for 'Organ' (2002) by Marc Moulin.
Since October 2014, 'Froud & Stouf' have their own comic book mural in the Boulevard Maurice Lemonnier 32 / Maurice Lemonnier boulevard 32 in Brussels, as part of the Brussels' Comic Book Route.
Jannin's nephew, Joachim Jannin, enjoys fame as a sculptor. On 1 May 2019, he designed a statue depicting Mr. Choc, the antagonist from Maurice Rosy and Will's comic series 'Tif et Tondu'. It was erected in the Walloon village La Hulpe. Fred Jannin's son Leopold is active as an infographics artist.
