Bill Johnson was the creator of the satirical comic strip 'Arnold'. It appeared in several US campus newspapers, until it became a nationally syndicated Sunday page for a couple of months in 1961. For Hugh Hefner's Playboy, he drew the educational spoof 'Bill Johnson's Inside Dope. Everything A Guy Needs to Know About Wine' in the 'Playboy Funnies' section (September 1980). In the same section, Johnson also had an actual gag comic series, 'Saturday Night Jive', launched from the June 1981 issue on.
Besides being a cartoonist, Johnson was a prize-winning reporter and rewriteman.
