Sven K. studied theater and pantomime in Paris and Stockholm between 1986 and 1989. At the same time, he made comics and cartoons. In 1990, Sven K. moved to Köln, where he started doing graphic work for a theater company. It was around this time that he created 'Ivy', a comic strip about a bar waitress. In 1992-93, Sven K. frequently traveled to Poland, where he met Piotr Skrzynecki, a cabaret artist who introduced him to the art scene in Krakow. This resulted in an exhibition of Sven K.'s cartoons. Back in Köln, he earned a living as a bar cartoonist for a while, drawing cartoons in bars in exchange for beer. In 1997, Sven K. got his first steady job as a director of the archive of the 'Wochenshow'. In 2000, he became chief graphic designer at an e-commerce company, which left him enough time to devote himself more fully to his comic 'Ivy's Bar'.
