Dieter Kalenbach was a German comic artist, born in Düsseldorf. He attended art school in Hamburg and spent the following years traveling and working as an illustrator and set designer for TV and theater. Many of his travels brought him to Lapland, which inspired him to create his comic series about the Lapp boy Turi and his eagle Tolk. 'Turi und Tolk', created in a style close to that of Hermann, was published in Zack by Koralle Verlag between 1973 and 1980. It also ran in the magazine's foreign counterparts Super-As (France) and Wham (The Netherlands).
On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Adolf Hitler in 1989, he illustrated a critical comics biography in two parts written by Friedemann Bedürftig and published by Carlsen. Kalenbach is best known for his advertising work for IKEA and Esso, and for his drawings of Scandinavian nature and wildlife. Dieter Kalenbach lives and works in Brobergen near Hamburg.
