Makoto Kobayashi was born in the prefecture of Niigata. He began his career at age 20 with 'Grapple Three Brothers', winner of the Shounen magazine New manga artist award. For the same magazine, he began the serial '1,2 no Sanshirou'. He is the creator of the manga comic 'What's Michael?', about an endearing red tomcat, and of the sitcom manga 'Miss Hello'. For Young Magazine Uppers, he made 'Chichonmanchi' ('Hell of Love & Ecstasy').
